Dr. John Holton, Research Associate
Email: jholton@ s2temsc. org Dr. John Holton is a research associate with the S²TEM Centers SC and has been since July of 2013. The focus of his work is on the development of an analysis of the STEM literature, including state and local STEM plans from around the nation. In addition, he writes a weekly blog which reflects what he has found in the STEM literature. He is developing proficiency in the use school achievement and demographic data by organizing them into searchable data. He has developed several apps that can be used on hand-held devices that enable the user to use these data. He is proficient in the organization and use of school achievement and demographic data to identify curriculum and instructional issues and has developed several apps that can be used on hand-held devices for these purposes. John has a great deal of practical experience working as a teacher and administrator, from building to state-level. This experience coupled with his extensive study of the STEM literature assists him to as he facilitates the translation of research into useful strategies and tactics to improve STEM education practice at the state, district, and school levels. John was an education associate at the South Carolina Department of Education from 2000-2013. While at the Department he was the Coordinator of the Mathematics and Science Unit and was involved with the development of the Math and Science Coaching Initiative and participated in the development of the 2005 South Carolina Academic Standards for Science. He also served as a school superintendent in Delaware (Appoquinimink in Middletown, Delaware) and in Rhode Island (Narragansett). John has a Ph.D. in curriculum and educational history and philosophy from The Ohio State University. |
