A Read to Succeed 60-hour Professional Development Course - Approved by the South Carolina State Department of Education
R2S - iDEAL is a comprehensive, multi-layered course of study focused on disciplinary literacy in STE(A)M.
R2S - iDEAL is designed and facilitated by SCCMS/S²TEM Centers.
R2S - iDEAL is appropriate for middle and secondary level (grades 6-12), multi-disciplinary teams from a school or district. Composition of teams MUST include a district level or school-based instructional leader, classroom teachers and/or afterschool instruction providers. Teams may represent a district, a collaboration of more than one school or a single school. Teams of at least three members are required; however, teams of five members are preferred.
R2S - iDEAL is based on the findings of our Inquiring Minds – Reading to Learn and Innovate (IQ-MS) research project funded by Boeing SC and the state of South Carolina. IQ-MS experimental schools outperformed control schools on state assessment measures in science, mathematics and ELA. View details of the research and findings along with a free, comprehensive library of disciplinary literacy resources.
R2S - iDEAL is designed to engage educators in an exploration of disciplinary literacy strategies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Participants will explore research on disciplinary literacy, as well as analyze classroom lessons that incorporate disciplinary literacy. Purposefully planned experiences will engage participants in how to create a classroom/school culture that supports disciplinary literacy.
