STEM Innovation Configuration (IC) Maps

A Tool for Building a STEM-Minded School
An IC Map provides a mental image of an ideal state of an innovation (on the left-side) followed by decreasingly desirable levels in the columns moving toward the right.
Built upon research based characteristics of high performing STEM schools, each STEM IC-Map is a tool an organization can use to create a “vision” of their ideal state and reach consensus on their existing state.
With supporting evidence, organizations can then use the results to develop an action plan to move forward.
Embedded throughout is the principle of continuous improvement supporting reflective practice by learners at all levels – students, teachers, leaders, business, and community organizations. At the sustaining level, learners would be using a process to monitor and refine their efforts
Schools aligned with the criteria identified in the STEM IC Maps will progress toward developing students with world class knowledge, world class skills, and life and career characteristics as defined by the Profile of the SC Graduate.
