Task 1:  Consider a recent lesson in your classroom. 
  • How did purposeful reading play a role in your instruction?
  • What might have been some missed opportunities for purposeful reading to support student learning of the content?

Task 2:  Consider an upcoming lesson in your classroom.
  • How might you incorporate purposeful reading strategies into the lesson to support student understanding of the content?
  • What strategy or strategies might you use before students read to prepare them with a purpose for reading?
  • What strategy or strategies might you use during the reading to support students as they make connections and monitor their understanding?
  • What strategy or strategies might you use after the reading to allow students to summarize, question, or reflect on the text?
